SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT

Independent Women’s — including sister organizations Independent Women’s Forum (501(c)3) and Independent Women’s Voice (501(c)4) — Social Media Assistant (SMA) is passionate, creative, and driven by curating digital content that changes hearts and minds.

As SMA, you will learn IW processes to use social media effectively and proficiently — using all major social media platforms and social media management tools.

Activities Include: 

  • Assist the digital team in developing ideas for results-driven social media strategies that increase brand awareness, issue education and advocacy, and messaging priorities.
  • Help map out social media content calendar — including bracketing events, campaigns, and product releases. 
  • Assist in drafting error-free and engaging content for social media, including private groups (IWV Private Facebook Group and Independent Women’s Network), with a keen eye on increasing engagement and mitigating risk by adhering to best practices. 
  • Work with design and digital team members to produce social media creative visual content that stands out — including memes, eye-catching, unique, and informative graphics and videos that engage, inform, and deliver results.
  • Interact with social media followers and respond to messages, inquiries, and comments.
  • Monitor extremely active Facebook Group owned by IW daily and ensure that members are abiding by guidelines and rules while engaging with relevant and captivating content.
  • Contribute to weekly internal communications — IW Internal News — weekly reporting document. Providing social media metrics data to include.
  • Aid in documenting daily social media metrics and reporting and maintaining tracking spreadsheets. Use analytics and metrics to identify what’s working and what’s not working to be data-driven social media marketers.
  • Monitor the social media channels and news cycle and public discourse related to IW focus issues (social listening) and assist with bracketing and rapid response via social media.
  • Attend events (virtual and in-person) — including conferences, rallies, annual gala, and other events — and help produce live social media content.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Social media strategy supports growth of grassroots, advocacy, membership, and policy initiatives.
  • IW’s message is amplified, “heard,” and understood; misperceptions are addressed and corrected; hearts and minds are changed.
  • Social media audience grows, engagement continues to increase, and followers become more active and stay engaged by consistently taking actions 
  • IW builds a solid influencer network and has a broader reach.
  • Social media reporting is consistent and strong, and can be used in on-demand reports to staff, investors, board members, and friends of IW.
  • IW continues to have policy wins.

To Succeed In This Role You Must Have:

  • The ability to share policy-related content in an engaging way
  • An understanding of social networks, knowledge of social media best practices, and emerging trends and platforms in digital media
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills. Being clever and pithy when appropriate
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral
  • A basic understanding of current affairs and American politics/policy
  • Excellent news judgment
  • The ability to be a self starter, capable of working independently
  • Knowledge of social media best practices
  • Eagerness to learn graphic design and video editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Indesign, and Premiere
  • Detail-oriented approach with ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and multitask

SMA will report to IW’s Social Media Manager and work closely with the Digital Marketing Director.
